Saturday Pre-Game Hike

Friday night while my son, Jake, was playing in the Timpview High pep band for the Alta game (Timpview 42- Alta 27), Mark, my husband, called to say he was stuck in traffic. He got off the freeway in Draper over the Alpine back roads to miss some of the back up. We decided to pick up some dinner and meet at Bridal Veil Falls for dinner. Ten minutes from my house I was at the falls. It was about 7:30 pm and light enough that 30-40 people were still splashing around, climbing the hillside and walking their longboards through the no skate zone. I completely enjoyed the people watching and listening to the cascading water. It was a great way for Mark to unwind after the backed up traffic on the roads. We saw a  friend walking his dogs and spent a couple of minutes catching up. We noticed jam packed canyon parking lots for the Timpanogos Story Telling Festival.
The canyon breezes were blowing the trees. It was rejuvenating.

Saturday morning Mark, Jake and I decided to hike up the side of Timpanogos Mountain as far as we could get in three hours so we would get back in time for the BYU opening season game. We rushed to get up the mountain and then enjoyed the incredible mountainside beauty of first and second falls, some pretty wild flowers, and many enthusiastic hikers. We stopped near the top of the ridge in a cirque enjoying the shade and eating our lunches while overlooking Heber Valley and the tiny ant like community of Aspen Grove far below. Million dollar views within a half an hour drive and some great hiking-- How many places on earth can you get so much in return for so little?
Refreshed, we started back down again and managed to watch the 23-17 BYU win!
We topped off the night with a movie.....ALL IN ONE DAY!!!!
There is so much to do and there are so many opportunities for recreation and the arts. And part of the fun I can claim is right in the middle of my council district, including some of the mountain surroundings. What a great place to live.
